This Camino journey began in 2011 after watching a movie called “The Way” starring Martin Sheen and his son Emilio Estevez. The Way is the name that referred to early Christians who believed in Jesus Christ. The Camino de Santiago (path to Santiago) is the Way of St. James. James was one of the 12 apostles. After the crucifixion of Christ, James walked through Spain preaching the gospel in an attempt to convert people to The Way. He was beheaded by King Herod after returning to Jerusalem in 42 AD. His disciples brought his body back Santiago for burial.
In 2011, work and family responsibilities were not conducive to walking The Way. I retired in 2015 and my old dog Chocolate died at the beginning of 2018. He was the last reason for not walking the Camino. So….last summer, the journey began with long hikes in the foothills and the mountains close to home in preparation for this year’s walk. Ron will be walking the Camino with me.
